Worst Moving Experience

By far the worst moving experience I have ever had. We had damage to items, were charged "handling" fees that were not disclosed to us on the estimate and were overcharged $630.00 due to a driver mathematical error. When we contacted the representative at Old School, we were told to go ahead and pay the amount stated on the bill of lading and that we would be reimbursed later. It has been 30 days since our delivery and to date we have yet to speak to someone at Old School about this matter despite numerous phone calls and emails. The quality of customer service is horrible!!

Official company response

Hello Blythe, after reviewing your paperwork and the breakdown that you kindly provided listing the charges we did find that you were not overcharged. In your itemized breakdown you did not include the Origin/Destination Fee of $700, this fee has been a line item on your estimate since day 1 and was not added after booking. In addition, we are very transparent with regard to all costs/fees and we do list the potential accessorial or service charges very clearly on our Estimate. I am sorry if you may have overlooked this section but it is directly under the pricing in our "Company Terms and Conditions Section". We did follow up with you to which we received no reply. I will gladly review the charges with you again if needed. Please feel free to reach out to us anytime, we are happy to help clarify all of your questions or concerns.

I would give 0 if I could

This company has not provided us with one honest statement thus far. We told them everything we had in our house and was quoted and scheduled a "window" of when they will be here. I asked if they are a broker, they said no. I asked if our belongings would stay on one truck, they said yes. I asked if the truck to pickup and drop off would have the company's logo on it, they said yes. I told them I have a motorcycle, they said they would crate it. Day before the window of arrival, I get a call to go through my list of items again. The price goes up. I ask if there is potential for the price to go up again and they assured me it would not. I ask if they are crating my motorcycle, they said yes. Day of- movers get here and look around, the price goes up after they look around. Oh also, this company doesn't crate. This company is not the company I hired though apparently. And our belongings will be transferred to another truck too, "probably only one though" the movers say. 10 hours later they are done loading. Price goes up again and I am informed after making my check out to Old School Movers, that that's not correct, I'm not paying Old School! The people my contract is through, I'm not paying! I'm livid. To really lay it out for all reading, we still have to rent a trailer tomorrow because they couldn't even take all of our stuff- they are full.

I don't even know at this point where my stuff is even going, who it will be with, and if I'll ever see it again. I'm in tears!!

We are responding to the above customer moving from MI-FL in regards to this review. We have reached out to the customer and have come up with a resolution. We understand the issues encountered at the day of pick up and have arranged to have the rest of the items picked up at no additional cost. We are keeping in contact with the customer and will be here for her until her move is completed.

Please beware

Terrible experience.

Attached photo of "special handling" of a telescope. This careful handling cost me over $100.

Old School sold me on over $500 of "special handling" charges for 4 items that had to be moved extra carefully especially for a long distance move. The special items were moved exactly as everything else, not treated special in any way. Old School refused to discuss this matter, or apologize or refund any of the charges. (Due to us signing the receiving document upon delivery). The special handling charges are deceptive! Please don't fall for this and if you do, don't sign anything and take lots of photos.

We waited over 1 year before even getting a response to normal damage claims. Then they make you jump through a lot of hoops hoping you will just give up at some point.

Move from FL to Ga

So old school moving and storage set up my move up but Map moving and storage actually were the ones that they contracted out to pick up my items and I hold them both accountable. First they almost doubled the quoted price because they said my boxes were bigger and my bed wasn’t normal size so it went up from $2800 to $5078. I didn’t get all my paperwork from the move and the mover said they were supposed to email it out to me. I kept them in the loop about when I would be closing on my house and when I would need my things delivered because they kept saying it would take 21 days. My things were in their storage for about 1 month and 20 days. When they were delivered, it was an actual rats in my boxes, they ate half of my clothes, my 82” Samsung tv was broke, along with my work desk. They sent me to a 3rd party claims division after numerous calls and e-mail. This was the worse move I have ever had.

I STILL do not have my BELONGINGS

Lie after lie. MAP moving and storage picked my stuff up Thursday Feb 18, 2021. Charged me an extra 1340.00 to take it because after paying Old School for their fees, they charged per item and box, the movers showed up and had been given an estimate of 420 Cubic feet. That didn't cover 1/2 of my stuff. Apparently the movers charge by cubic feet. Why? I don't know why I was charged separately. No answer. Who made up the 420 c/f estimate that had never seen any of my things? Another no answer.

Onward. My things had not left Washington even that Monday with the excuse that I had not filled in a delivery date on one of the papers??? What? Since then it has been one lie after another. It is now Thursday and Liz informed me today that the driver is in Utah stuck in a snowstorm and has to go BACK to Washington to get my things and then deliver them. My Epilepsy medications are on that truck which they have known since Monday and have assured me since Monday would expedite my delivery.

As of today I have contacted Erik Soskin, Attorney General, to get this company to rent a uhaul and get my items to me or whatever needs to be done by tomorrow. I am in the process of hiring an attorney. Everyday they take this review down I will put it up again. The government now has their DOT # and will be investigating them. They are not accredited with the BBB. I research everything and how I missed this I don't know. Liz, Kelly, Paul, and William have all lied about so many things I cannot begin to tell you. Stay away from this company. And MAP moving and storage.

At the end this says to avoid exaggerations. Nothing in this review has been exaggerated. You also may see another review by me on here. After Liz assured me my items would be here earlier, and seemed most helpful, she asked me for a favor. To take down my earlier negative review. She said I didn't have to give 5 stars, but maybe 3. I did that. She seemed to have been so honest and helpful. Well, as you can tell, she also turned out to be like everyone else.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $2800

Official company response

We are responding to the above customer moving from WA to ID. We would like to express how unconventional and rude this customer is. We have tried multiple times to keep this customer satisfied despite her demands. She calls our office in a very vulgar and argumentative matter. This customer was originally scheduled to be picked up on February 11th through the 12th. On February 10th, she called in Paul our Sales Manager, to tell him she did not remember what was in her storage. On the 11th when the movers arrived she opted to reschedule her move for the next week because "she could not make it." Usually when someone reschedules on the day of pick up or without notice we charge a $450.00 fee for gas, tolls, labor, and tax. In her case, we had waived this fee, but we are now re-applying the rescheduling fee. On February 18th, the day of her pick up she was not present. The day after she contacted our office complaining and trying to dispute all charges without any paperwork and conveniently forgetting the conversation she had with Paul on the 10th. This is when our Compliance Manager, Liz, came into the picture and started working on getting her paperwork and making any adjustments. Monday, February 22nd, Liz called her with a resolution which she seemed to be pleased with. She also called her daily with updates on her delivery as the customer was adamant that her medication was in her shipment even though she claimed she cannot take her delivery on weekdays because she is a full time nurse. On our paperwork it states our delivery time frames and the delivery schedules ARE NOT GUARANTEED. She has repeatedly called in our office since, calling our staff incompetent because we will not give her an exclusive truck. She also regularly calls in threatening and harassing the staff. She does not seem to care for the driver who is assigned to deliver her items safety, as he is driving through icy and snowy roads. On February 26th, we offered to let her pick up her items at no additional charge. She also signed a contract which states she cannot put any negative reviews, which she has, but we are not concerned as this is a legal document. However, at this time we are willing to once again offer her the opportunity to pick up her items as our staff refuses to continuously be harassed by her. She can pick up her items for no additional cost with a money back guarantee. She might have written an essay on this review, but unfortunately these facts are false. We will be contacting the customer to let her know our offer.

Long-distance move from Wilmington, DE to Austin, TX

Worst experience ever.

We were told we would get our stuff In 5 days and they ended up taking nearly 3 weeks. Lie after lie, nobody would give us an honest answer. Ended up having to live out of a hotel for almost two weeks and paying out of my pocket. Customer service was disrespectful and "Sam"( a dispatcher )was raising his voice at me for calling to check in to see when I could check out of my hotel. Then they said the driver felt sick and they would not give him a covid test. Overall, worst moving experience I've ever had and they will just keep throwing their contract in your face. They broke a lot of our glassware from throwing boxes around. They also scratched our furniture up like a stray cat on the legs.

Official company response

We are responding to the above customer initials R. A. We would like to start off by saying Old School Moving & Storage is a broker, not a Carrier. We contracted our Carrier, Accolade Moving and Storage, to service the customers move from Delaware to Austin. Throughout the move, Old School Moving & Storage stood as a mediator between the customer and the Carrier, and giving her the most updated information we had in our system in regards to her delivery. Delivery dates are not guaranteed. We have attached the area in our contract which states this information:

Average long distance delivery timelines:

Estimated Delivery Time allowed up to 21 Business Days from First Available Delivery Date.

Destination Delivery Schedule ESTIMATE

0-500 Miles 3-7 business days
501-1000 Miles 3-10 business days
1001-1500 Miles 3-14 business days
1501+ Miles 3-21 business days
*This delivery schedule is NOT GUARANTEED! IT IS ONLY AN ESTIMATE.

We sincerely apologize about her experience with our Carrier. This Carrier has been placed on a suspension after reading about his actions on this review. Old School Moving & Storage is still here for the customer, and have sent out claims information via email in order for her to get reimbursement on her damaged items.

Long-distance move from Clearwater, FL to New York, NY

Avoid This Moving Company- Zero Rating

I scheduled Old School Moving & Storage Co. on 4-30-21 to move belongings from Clearwater, FL to New York, NY on 5-8-21.

The quote was for $1800.00 with a $600.00 deposit, (paid on 4-30-21 with a ZELLE bank wire).

The movers arrived on May 8 and demanded $3733 total.  The man in charge was Irdek at 407-756-4268 and he said the price increase from $1800 to $3733 (over 100% price gauging) was due to my total came to 450-500 cu ft and having different sized boxes  (

He didn’t look over the quantity of individual sized boxes, just said "I've been doing this for 15 years and I can eyeball the size."

When I got the quote from Old School , they knew I had small-medium and large boxes for the quote.

I had 12 additional small boxes at the time of pick up. Definately not  210 cubic feet more. (see below)

I had another truck company on 5-10-21 SEE my storage and measure the items and total cubic feet is 295. I have this in writing.

My storage unit is 10X10 with approximately a little more than one quarter filled. No furniture, no appliances.

No games, honest and reliable, no price gauging.

After investigating further, I have found this is common practice with Old School Moving & Storage Co.

I asked them for my deposit to $600.00 be refunded on May 8 after I declined the truckers to take the belongings for the additional cost.

"Kelly" the manager denied my request for a refund.

The same day, Kelly called me back stating I can have a partial refund.

I declined this stating I want my full deposit refunded.

She then said she would speak with her manager and call me on May 10th by 3pm, which she did not, I called her.

On this date, May 10, she stated "she was reviewing the telephone calls and all info."

WHAT INFO? WHAT TO REVIEW? They tried to over double the price and it is completely unacceptable.

There is nothing to review. They price gauged by over 100%

I can understand an extra cost for anything realistic, but never over double the cost.

I want them to be held accountable. I want my $600.00 deposit refunded.

Official company response

We are responding to the above customer Ms. Kossavis moving from Clearwater, FL to New York, NY. On May 8th, 2021 the customer opted to cancel and/or refuse services from the Carrier assigned to service her move. By law, the Carrier must present the customer with an Interstate Revised Written Estimate if the Carrier feels that the items will exceed the space reservation the customer was originally quoted for. This customer refused service after being presented with the Interstate Revised Written Estimate by the foreman and cancelled her move. We spoke with this customer and informed her of our cancellation policy. Even though we did tell her she did not qualify for a full refund on her deposit, we decided we would offer her a partial refund of $170.00. The customer then called back on May 12, 2021 requesting a full refund on her deposit, which we again informed her that she did not qualify for. We once again offered her a partial refund of $170.00 which she refused. Please see the email below as reference to our offer: "Good afternoon Ms. Kossivas,

We apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused you throughout your move. Unfortunately, as explained to you via telephone, you do not qualify for a full refund of your deposit. Please look at the highlighted portion of the estimate you signed with us which states our cancellation policy:

SHOULD YOU ELECT TO CANCEL YOUR MOVE WITH OLD SCHOOL MOVING & STORAGE, WRITTEN NOTIFICATION MUST BE SENT TO OPERATIONS@OLDSCHOOLMOVINGANDSTORAGE.COM. WRITTEN NOTIFICATION MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN 72 HOURS AFTER SIGNING THE OLD SCHOOL MOVING & STORAGE AGREEMENT. CANCELLATION REQUESTS RECEIVED WITHIN 72 HOURS OF SIGNING THE AGREEMENT WITH OLD SCHOOL MOVING & STORAGE WILL RECEIVE A FULL REFUND, MINUS 10% DUE TO INCURRED MERCHANT FEES. CANCELLATION REQUESTS RECEIVED AFTER THE 72 HOUR GRACE PERIOD ARE NON-REFUNDABLE, HOWEVER; THE DEPOSIT MAY BE APPLIED TO A FUTURE MOVE WITH OLD SCHOOL MOVING & STORAGE WITHIN 10 MONTHS (1 YEAR) FROM THE DATE OF THE ORIGINAL SIGNED AGREEMENT. IF YOUR FIRST AVAILABLE PICKUP DATE IS WITHIN FIVE (5) BUSINESS DAYS OF ELECTRONICALLY SIGNING THE OLD SCHOOL MOVING & STORAGE AGREEMENT, YOUR DEPOSIT IS NON-REFUNDABLE.

We understand that you did not agree with our preferred Carrier, therefore we are still willing to offer you a partial refund of $170.00 as a form of Good Faith. We have gone ahead and sent a settlement for you to sign if you elect to take the partial refund. Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you for your patience in this matter." The customer can still claim the $170.00 partial refund if she chooses. She can contact our office at (844)569-4551 at any time. Thank you.

Long-distance move from Nashville, TN to Boston, MA

Unsatisfactory experience

In March I arranged a move from TN to MA for delivery June 2 and was assured by the company that I was setting this up way ahead of time and my dates for pickup and delivery would be easily achieved. I offered pack up 2 weeks earlier but told we would be fine with our pack up dates. I didn't know that this company actually hires another company to carry out the move. When packers and drivers didn't show up on schedule, Old School Movers didn't respond to my calls or communications. They made the sale and collected 1/3 o the money and that's it. The contracted company didn't communicate with us either. The belongings stayed in TN for almost 3 weeks before a driver was even lined up. Our things had to be reloaded on another truck causing a few things to break. I made numerous unanswered calls to both companies to get updates. Both companies ignored our pleas for updates citing the fact that the contract said 21 days were allowed. I wish they had communicated that when I scheduled the move. I was verbally told that June 2 would be the delivery date. My son stayed in an empty apartment June 2 until June 21 when movers finally showed up after rudely telling my son and me to stop calling and texting and to just go buy clothes to start his job. The delivery men also didn't bring the couch into the apartment saying it would not fit up the stairs leaving it on the sidewalk. I had to hire someone else to put it in the apartment. Overall poor customer relations, passing the buck to other people, most stressful move ever made. Beware of getting dates verbally---allow 21 days no matter what they say. And check to see who they contract with.
